About the position

The Engineering Technician will be an integral part of the Engineering Development organization, focusing on supporting various activities that are crucial for engineering experiments, prototype testing, and design validation. This role involves hands-on work with both electrical and mechanical assemblies, requiring a keen understanding of engineering principles and practices. The technician will be responsible for building and testing these assemblies, ensuring they meet the necessary specifications and performance criteria. In this position, the technician will read and interpret written and verbal instructions, mechanical assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics. Troubleshooting is a key component of the role, as the technician will need to diagnose issues within systems that may include electrical, vacuum, water, pneumatic, and other mechanical systems. The technician will also be tasked with reviewing and executing test plans, performing data collection and analysis to support engineering efforts. Additionally, the technician will provide valuable feedback regarding design, assembly, and testing processes to the engineering development team. Managing material inventory within the work area or lab is another essential responsibility, along with performing lab audits to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety in the engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Building and testing electrical and mechanical assemblies for engineering experiments, prototype testing, and design validation.
  • Reading and working from written and verbal instructions, mechanical assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Troubleshooting of systems, including electrical, vacuum, water, pneumatic, and other mechanical systems.
  • Reviewing and executing test plans and performing data collection and analysis.
  • Providing design, assembly, and test feedback to engineering development.
  • Managing material inventory in the work area or lab.
  • Performing lab audits for safety or regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of LabView software and programming.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with high vacuum systems and familiarity with cleanroom practices.
  • Capable of minor modifications to electrical harnessing and mechanical parts is a plus.
  • Experience with setup, adjustment, and calibration of wafer handling robotics is a plus.
  • Experience or basic understanding of Ion Sources is a plus.
  • Ability to perform the physical labor required during maintenance and repair of the equipment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
