About the position

The Enhanced Registrar plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service by registering patients across multiple service lines. This position involves gathering and inputting essential demographic, financial, and clinical information to ensure accurate billing and reporting. The Registrar is responsible for verifying patient information, explaining legal documents, and coordinating with various stakeholders to maximize insurance benefits while maintaining a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients in multiple service lines and input necessary demographic, financial, and clinical information.
  • Verify accuracy of EMPI link and report possible linking problems and identity theft.
  • Interact with patients to gather and verify demographic and insurance information accurately.
  • Comprehend and explain legal documents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Complete financial screening questions to identify potential funding sources.
  • Hold financial discussions with patients regarding copays, insurance benefits, and payment arrangements.
  • Coordinate with physician offices and clinical staff on out-of-network issues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing processes and provide way-finding assistance.
  • Maintain quality and productivity statistics as determined for the position.
  • Lead and train new employees as needed.
  • Perform cashiering and hospital reception duties when required.
  • Cross-train to cover shifts in other departments as needed, including holiday coverage.
  • Work on admitting reports and Case Mix errors in a timely manner.
  • Support hospital-specific patient engagement initiatives as directed.

Requirements

  • Three years of customer service experience within the last five years.
  • Negotiation or collection experience within the last three years.
  • Experience working effectively in time-sensitive situations and multi-tasking.
  • Demonstrated typing proficiency and basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Registration experience on Tandem or iCentra.
  • Data entry or clerical experience in a medical office setting.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
