About the position

The Fellow position at Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in education. This role involves working under the guidance of a lead teacher to provide additional support to students, fostering significant and lasting change in the classroom and school environment. Fellows will engage in professional development activities and contribute to building a positive classroom culture that emphasizes biliteracy, sustainability, and community stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building a classroom culture that demonstrates the principles of biliteracy, sustainability, authentic inquiry, and Habits of Community Stewardship.
  • Participate in student evaluations such as one-on-one reading evaluations.
  • Provide one-on-one, small group instruction and individualized support to students.
  • Participate in the Responsive Classroom and Restorative Practices philosophy for creating a community of learners and managing the classroom.
  • Embrace and foster inclusion and equity in the classroom and uphold high expectations for all students.
  • Collaborate with classroom lead teachers in planning meetings and supporting instruction.
  • Provide support to the grade level team as needed.
  • Engage in weekly school-wide professional development meetings, weekly Fellow Team meetings, and weekly check-ins with the Lead teacher.
  • Participate in grade level meetings and inclusion conversations as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset that is receptive to feedback.
  • Carry out a gradual release continuum as part of a professional development plan.
  • Assume substitute lead teacher responsibilities as necessary.
  • Attend pre-planned evening events throughout the year such as Student Led Conferences, Expo, family home visits, etc.
  • Attend family/community events such as orientation, prospective parent info sessions, family potlucks, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, or equivalent experience.
  • One year of experience working with children ages 3 to 12 (e.g., tutoring, camp, after school) required; experience in a school setting is a plus.
  • Advanced or native proficiency in Spanish required to teach in Spanish or bilingual classrooms.
  • Urban teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working with special needs students in an inclusive setting preferred.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team with strong leadership capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual preferred for all English classroom positions but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate deeply with colleagues to raise student achievement.
  • Understanding of the different levels of age-appropriate student development.
