About the position
The Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in providing financial counseling to economically challenged patients, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance programs. This position involves analyzing individual cases, managing patient registrations, and following up with various stakeholders to maximize financial reimbursement for the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial counseling to indigent patients and economically challenged individuals.
- Statistically analyze the needs of each case and present logical assistance programs available.
- Assist with patient registrations and manage specific registration and verification worklists.
- Perform registration audits and solicit copays from patients.
- Efficiently follow up with patients, family members, co-workers, management, physicians, and other department staff to ensure maximum financial reimbursement.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Two years of on-the-job experience in a similar position is desired.
- Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, welfare agencies, and insurances.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Good communication skills.
- Computer experience is required.
