About the position

The Graduation Candidate Advocate (GCA) plays a crucial role in supporting students in their journey to earn a high school diploma. This position focuses on building strong relationships with students from diverse backgrounds, addressing non-academic barriers, and implementing motivational strategies to enhance student attendance and academic success. The GCA collaborates with staff to provide curriculum support and assist students in identifying post-secondary opportunities based on their interests.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with new student registration and enrollment process
  • Provide support for the student orientation process
  • Serve as a case manager for a cohort of students to monitor and report regular attendance
  • Implement the Acceleration Academy Retention Protocol daily via outreach communications (i.e. texts, calls, home visits)
  • Use technology tools to assist in daily monitoring and maintenance of student attendance and retention records
  • Assist with canvassing and recruitment of new students
  • Provide one-on-one academic support/intervention to support student learning
  • Work closely with the student's support team to monitor the learning pathway, behavior, and transition plans
  • Use technology and Learning Management System to assist in monitoring and facilitating student progress and maintaining student records including attendance
  • Advocate for students by assisting with finding solutions and services through academy staff for the academic and non-academic barriers to success
  • Provide day-to-day operations support for the academy (i.e. answering telephones, maintaining student records, etc.)
  • Participate in academy meetings and other school/community events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher (Bachelor's preferred)
  • At least 1 - 3 years of relevant experience
  • Appropriate state and federal criminal history clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
  • Experience in a non-traditional school setting, education-related field, or with at-risk youth
  • Strong understanding of and comfort with the use of technology in an educational setting
  • Experience with project-based learning, portfolio assessment, competency-based education, cooperative learning, integration of technology and cross-disciplinary learning, alternative assessments and integrating school-to-career experiences into the curriculum
  • Experience serving students with significant social-emotional needs preferred
