About the position

The Kitchen Staff Substitute position at Opaa! Food Management, Inc. is a part-time role responsible for performing essential kitchen functions on an as-needed basis. This role involves food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in kitchen areas, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The position requires flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while adhering to the company's core values of service and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with set-up of serving lines and ensure food is held at required temperatures.
  • Assist in the preparation of foods according to the menu plan and Opaa! recipes.
  • Plan and prep ahead for the next day's menus.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and grinders with proper certification.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, kitchen, and cafeteria.
  • Keep inventory organized and practice First In/First Out (FIFO) procedures.
  • Clean and maintain dishwashing equipment and area.
  • Requisition food and supplies through the Kitchen Manager as needed.
  • Prepare baked goods as required by the menu plan.
  • Present food to customers in an appealing manner.
  • Batch cook to maintain quality and presentation of food.
  • Serve food items with proper serving sizes and utensils.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and record keeping.
  • Handle customer transactions and operate cash register as required.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and meal reconciliation tasks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, or up to one month related experience or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information effectively.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations and interpret data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a kitchen or food service environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and HACCP processes.
