About the position

The Camp Counselor at La Casita Day Camp plays a vital role in implementing Girl Scout programming, ensuring the safety and success of campers. This seasonal position involves planning and leading activities, guiding campers in personal growth, and maintaining a safe and engaging environment. The Camp Counselor is responsible for high-quality programming, including archery and ropes courses, while serving as a primary caregiver for campers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers throughout the camp to meet intended camper outcomes.
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times and implement safety guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
  • Lead and assist with the teaching of activities and actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Assist in program areas such as archery, high ropes, and all camp activities as directed.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Provide daily care for each camper, including recognition of personal health needs and ensuring medication is administered as directed.
  • Establish and monitor safety procedures for archery and low/high ropes course programs according to Girl Scout and ACA standards.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior, following all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver evening programs, special events, and other camp functions.
  • Attend and participate in daily meetings and provide check-in/out support to families.
  • Take care of special programming equipment and supplies, including setting up and taking down ropes course and/or archery range.
  • Evaluate and report as requested by the Camp Experience Manager or other administrative staff.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 18, 2025 - August 22, 2025) and training dates prior to camp.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certification throughout employment dates.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Must hold current archery and/or high ropes certifications or be willing to obtain them by the start of camp.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, and standing and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Nice-to-haves

  • Documented experience teaching or interacting in youth programming.
