About the position
The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in the clinical laboratory by managing patient specimens and ensuring accurate data entry for technical testing. This position is essential for maintaining the quality of laboratory operations and supporting patient care through meticulous handling of requisitions and specimens. Responsibilities
- Receives, verifies, logs, and collects patient requisitions and specimens for technical testing.
- Opens and inspects all specimens to assure an accurate specimen count.
- Verifies patient requisitions for completeness of patient, client, and insurance information.
- Prepares and sorts patient requisitions, identifying and interpreting data for entry into the information system.
- Follows proper procedures with specimen rejection if patient, client, and insurance information is submitted incorrectly.
- Enters alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from patient requisitions into the information system following the displayed format.
- Reviews data entered with source documents and/or error reports and enters necessary corrections into the information system.
- May label requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes, and/or slides and affix coverslip to slides.
- Routes patient requisitions after entry.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (minimum)
- State licensure, if applicable.
- At least 2 years of practical clinical or anatomic pathology laboratory experience preferred.
