About the position

The Utah Attorney General's Office is offering clerkship and externship opportunities for current law students for the Summer Semester 2025. Clerkships are paid positions, while externships are unpaid and may be eligible for school credit. Law clerks will engage in various legal tasks, including preparing legal documents, conducting legal analysis, and performing research to support the work of attorneys and judges.

Responsibilities

  • Draft litigation working documents and prepare concise decisions based on case facts and legal interpretations.
  • Evaluate information to determine the status of cases.
  • Monitor and track documentation and case files to ensure timelines are met.
  • Conduct legal research and gather evidence to prepare cases.
  • Review cases, applications, and records to determine necessary actions.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a law school program.
  • Strong ability to listen and understand spoken information.
  • Proficient reading and comprehension skills for written information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, and government regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in legal research or writing.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures.

Benefits

  • Paid position for clerkships at a rate of $26-$30 per hour depending on year in law school.
