About the position

The Lead Youth Caregiver plays a crucial role in supporting the supervisor to maintain a structured, safe, and productive environment for youth in a therapeutic residential setting. This position involves acting as a shift supervisor in the absence of the supervisor, providing quality care and services to youth, and ensuring adherence to programmatic standards. The Lead Youth Caregiver is responsible for overseeing daily operations, coaching staff, and implementing trauma-informed care practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisor in overseeing daily operations and delivery of high-quality services to youth.
  • Act as Shift Supervisor when the supervisor is not present, providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.
  • Provide leadership and model expected behavior, participating in duties such as SOD and crisis intervention.
  • Support staff proficiency in Crisis Prevention Institute techniques.
  • Implement Trauma Informed and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in care.
  • Teach and supervise youth in daily living activities, including hygiene, meals, and recreational activities.
  • Oversee care of infants and toddlers, ensuring appropriate supervision.
  • Ensure completion of documentation for checks, medication administrations, and other required logs.
  • Follow PBIS guidelines for behavior management and rewards.
  • Facilitate milieu services to teach goal setting, social skills, and independent living skills.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating cottage systems and programming.
  • Train new youth caregiver staff and ensure integration of clients' histories and behavior plans into care.
  • Respond to campus emergencies and comply with vehicle use documentation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Human Services or related field, or commitment to obtain behavioral health certification within 18 months.
  • Two years of experience as a Caregiver in a residential setting serving children.
  • Completion of RBT, 40-hour class can replace college requirement if completed within the first year.
  • First Aid and CPR Certified or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with no criminal driving offenses.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of FDLE clearance and background checks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Department of Children and Families rules and regulations regarding child care.
  • Knowledge of child abuse reporting procedures and crisis prevention techniques.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and co-workers.
