About the position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at the Mental Health Center serves as a crucial link between mental health treatment staff and psychiatrists, providing medication support, client education, and crisis intervention to ensure mental health stability. This role involves conducting health screenings, collaborating with psychiatrists for assessments, and participating in after-hours on-call rotations as a designated LPS team member.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between psychiatrists and Adult RRR staff.
  • Communicate medication and stabilization concerns to the treatment team.
  • Ensure team input is accessible to psychiatrists.
  • Update psychiatrists on recent behavioral or symptom changes in clients.
  • Assist psychiatrists in filling medication orders and processing prescriptions.
  • Ensure clients receive their medications as prescribed.
  • Notify staff of any changes in client medication regimens.
  • Provide medication education to clients both individually and in groups.
  • Monitor clients' medication regimens and assist in stabilizing them.
  • Triage medication issues with the treatment team and clients.
  • Perform medical and mental health assessments at intake and ongoing as needed.

Requirements

  • Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or LPT license in good standing required.
  • Must maintain current status as a licensed professional under California law.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience working with individuals with co-existing disorders.
  • Valid California Driver License in good standing and insurable by the Center's auto insurance carrier.
  • Understanding of medications and side effects to educate clients effectively.
  • Ability to interact with coworkers is essential.
  • Punctuality and full work hours are essential.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Experience in public health, community health education, or fieldwork is highly desirable.
  • Personal, reliable transportation required for field visits.
  • Red Cross First Aid and CPR training required; Crisis Prevention Management training may be necessary.
