About the position

The Mechanical Project Manager at Microsoft is responsible for overseeing the mechanical process delivery for data center projects. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget while adhering to high-quality standards. The position involves collaboration with various teams, including Data Center Engineering, to align project objectives and manage vendor relationships effectively. The Mechanical Project Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining compliance with Microsoft guidelines and industry best practices, contributing to the overall success of the Cloud Operations & Innovation team.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the mechanical process delivery for the site location.
  • Deliver the program safely, on schedule, on or under budget with a high level of quality.
  • Ensure the mechanical portion of the project meets Microsoft guidelines and standards.
  • Coordinate with the Data Center Engineering (DCE) team and support specialty consultants to provide feedback based on design.
  • Align team objectives, business processes, General Contractor (GC) and vendor management strategies, and cross-group collaboration efforts with the DCD project strategy.
  • Advocate for managing a safe site and collaborate with various internal groups to maintain corporate vision and performance goals.
  • Monitor the status of a project's mechanical side to ensure it stays on schedule and on budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, labor, and zoning regulations.
  • Handle administrative duties such as budgeting and managing agreements with subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
