About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers by assisting in the examination and treatment of patients. This position involves tracking patient information, documenting medical records, assisting with in-office procedures, administering medications, and providing education to patients and caregivers. The MA operates under the supervision of professional clinical staff and is integral to ensuring a positive patient experience and efficient healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients and guests to examination rooms.
  • Document reasons for visits and assess patient information for follow-up needs.
  • Perform initial response screenings and obtain patient vital signs.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and radiology orders into the electronic medical record.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and administer prescribed medications as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Communicate laboratory and diagnostic test results to patients as directed by providers.
  • Participate in disease management programs under supervision.
  • Provide patient and family education as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Support other offices and participate in required meetings and training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • 0-1 year of previous clinical experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform all NEO Basic Competencies and obtain accurate patient vital statistics.
  • Proficient in medical terminology and operating standard computer systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a community-based clinic setting.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying agency.
