About the position

The Medical Assistant at WellSpan Health Services provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care to patients in a full-time capacity. This role involves assisting in direct patient care, performing treatments, administering medications under supervision, and educating patients and their families. The Medical Assistant is an integral part of a patient-centered practice, contributing to the development of workflows that enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document reason for visit and patient vital signs.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the provider.
  • Ensure patient care areas are stocked with medical supplies and equipment is in good condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures and ensure proper setup of instruments and supplies.
  • Arrange for patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
  • Track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results under the direction of the provider.
  • Relay information from the provider to the patient regarding results and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines and medications under supervision as prescribed by the provider.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures and tests ordered by the provider as competencies allow.
  • Provide patients with standard care instructions and education as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients and family members.
  • Manage daily patient flow and prioritize care tasks delegated by the care team.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and comply with safety regulations.
  • Support the provider during visits by collecting and entering information in the patient record.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
  • Completion of all required education programs and competency testing needed to perform at an advanced level upon hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
