About the position
The Medical Assistant at WellSpan Health Services provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care to patients in a full-time capacity. This role involves assisting in direct patient care, performing treatments, administering medications under supervision, and educating patients and their families. The Medical Assistant is an integral part of a patient-centered practice, contributing to the development of workflows that enhance patient care.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and document reason for visit and patient vital signs.
- Collect specimens as directed by the provider.
- Ensure patient care areas are stocked with medical supplies and equipment is in good condition.
- Prepare patients for scheduled procedures and ensure proper setup of instruments and supplies.
- Arrange for patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
- Track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results under the direction of the provider.
- Relay information from the provider to the patient regarding results and follow-up instructions.
- Prepare and administer vaccines and medications under supervision as prescribed by the provider.
- Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
- Perform basic office procedures and tests ordered by the provider as competencies allow.
- Provide patients with standard care instructions and education as directed by providers.
- Obtain comprehensive health information from patients and family members.
- Manage daily patient flow and prioritize care tasks delegated by the care team.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and comply with safety regulations.
- Support the provider during visits by collecting and entering information in the patient record.
Requirements
- Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Completion of all required education programs and competency testing needed to perform at an advanced level upon hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
