About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) position at Summit Health involves supporting physicians, PAs, or NPs with various clerical and patient care duties. The role is essential in maintaining efficient patient flow, preparing examination rooms, and ensuring that patients receive high-quality care tailored to their individual needs. The MA will also be responsible for documenting patient information accurately in electronic health records and assisting with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the examination room and ensures proper preparation for patient visits.
  • Escorts patients into the examination room and cleans the room after exams.
  • Maintains efficient patient flow and stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Answers telephone calls appropriately and schedules appointments according to departmental guidelines.
  • Obtains vital signs and documents them accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Reviews and updates medication lists and documents known allergies in the EHR.
  • Enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste.
  • Facilitates transition of care to urgent care or hospital as needed.
  • Provides scribing services and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED or equivalent vocational/technical school diploma required.
  • Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program.
  • 0-1 year of related work experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use, required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years of related work experience preferred.
