About the position

The Mental Health Counselor position at Wisconsin Wellness involves providing therapeutic and educational services to clients dealing with mental health and substance use disorders. The role emphasizes a trauma-informed care approach and requires the counselor to develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate group therapy sessions, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The counselor will also engage in crisis intervention and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans for clients
  • Monitor and document client behaviors, progress, and responses to treatment
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to clients
  • Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure effective communication and coordination of care
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions and recreational activities
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for clients
  • Complete psycho/social histories and standardized assessments
  • Facilitate educational sessions on mental health, addiction, and co-occurring disorders
  • Demonstrate ability to engage clients in treatment and be empathetic and responsive to their needs
  • Independently facilitate family meetings and provide family education and support
  • Develop professional and objective treatment plans and reassessments
  • Manage client cases from admission to discharge
  • Enter clinical data accurately into health information systems
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings
  • Manage a full caseload
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Participate in staff development programs and mandatory trainings

Requirements

  • Masters or beyond in a relevant field
  • Current and up-to-date License to Practice mental health/psychotherapy in the state of Wisconsin
  • Previous experience in a mental health setting is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding is a plus
  • Familiarity with behavioral therapy techniques and crisis intervention strategies
  • Understanding of gender issues counseling and working with individuals on the autism spectrum
  • Ability to provide care for patients with PTSD and other mental health conditions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
