About the position

The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for transporting textiles between the hospital and the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) using a one-and-a-half-ton truck. This role involves ensuring the safe and secure loading of cargo, operating vehicles in congested areas, and performing preventative maintenance on the vehicle. The operator will also manage linen deliveries and assist in inventory tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the textile care operations.

Responsibilities

  • Transport textiles between the hospital and the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) five to six times daily.
  • Load and deliver carts and baskets to wards, clinics, and other assigned areas.
  • Ensure proper loading of vehicles to avoid overloading and secure cargo from weather and falling off the vehicle.
  • Maneuver the vehicle in congested dock areas and delivery points, working around other delivery personnel.
  • Operate dock leveling devices and position the truck for maximum efficiency.
  • Securely fasten various types of cargo and utilize stable loading arrangements to avoid hazardous conditions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the vehicle and submit work order requests for repairs.
  • Check all fluids and fuels of the vehicle as needed.
  • Monitor VA linen needs and report to the linen clerk for inventory management.
  • Occasionally assume duties of the WG-5 Laundry Machine Operator or perform other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Must pass a urinalysis drug test prior to appointment.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • May be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
