About the position

The Network Operations Center (NOC) Specialist plays a critical role in supporting NASA's Mission Network by ensuring smooth telemetry and command data flow for spacecraft and aeronautical missions. This position involves monitoring and troubleshooting communications-related issues, utilizing various network management tools, and collaborating with other NASA centers to resolve real-time network problems. The NOC Specialist will work in a 24/7 operational environment, requiring flexibility in scheduling and a commitment to maintaining high-quality communication services for NASA customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and troubleshoot communications-related problems for NASA's Mission Network (NASCOM).
• Use network management and diagnostic tools to ensure smooth data flow.
• Perform maintenance assistance on Cisco and Juniper routers and switches.
• Support day-to-day network operations in alignment with NASA missions.
• Collaborate with other NASA centers to resolve real-time network and dataflow issues.
• Participate in testing and implementation of new network services.
• Work in the NASCOM Mission Alternate Operating Facility (MAOF), a 24/7 network operation center.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to pass a full background investigation and obtain a Federal Government Public Trust Clearance.
• Experience with network management and diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches.
• Ability to operate NASA unique hardware items.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a real-time network environment.
• Ability to pass both written and practical certification tests associated with the Mission Network within 180 days of hire.
