About the position

The Nurse Assistant in the Medical Oncology Unit at Henry Ford Health provides essential patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role focuses on meeting the safety and comfort needs of patients, particularly those undergoing chemotherapy and hospice care. The Nurse Assistant is responsible for performing specific duties such as blood draws, taking vitals, and participating in team roundings, while also contributing to the planning and implementation of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient.
  • Assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
  • Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
  • Perform blood draws, vitals, venipuncture, and chemsticks.
  • Participate in team roundings and communicate concerns related to patients, staff, and self to the responsible RN.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • CNA preferred or completion of a Nurse Assistant program.
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program with completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
  • Foreign trained and licensed RN without a Michigan RN license.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
  • At least one year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar job role.
  • Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
