About the position
The Nurse (Clinical/Emergency) position at Joint Base San Antonio involves providing comprehensive nursing care in a Regional Level I Trauma Emergency Department. The role requires advanced emergency nursing skills to treat critically ill patients and includes responsibilities such as assisting in life-saving procedures, monitoring patient conditions, and managing nursing operations in the absence of the Head Nurse. This position is essential for ensuring high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a nurse specialist in a Regional Level I Trauma Emergency Department providing professional nursing care to critically ill patients.
- Assists the physician in performing Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) procedures.
- Independently recognizes life-threatening situations and intervenes according to protocols.
- Administers medications and fluids during emergencies and operates specialized medical equipment.
- Implements physician orders and initiates nursing care plans for individual patients.
- Instructs patients and families on self-care and medication management.
- Performs administrative duties as a Charge Nurse, including making nursing assignments and monitoring staff performance.
- Coordinates patient care activities and manages clinic operations in the ambulatory environment.
Requirements
- US Citizenship required.
- Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in at least one US state or province/territory of the United States.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is highly desirable.
- Ability to pass a Child Background Check due to working with adolescent patients.
- Willingness to work alternate shifts as required.
