About the position

The position involves providing basic clinical care to patients in an urgent care setting. The role requires performing initial evaluations, taking vital signs, and preparing patients for further medical evaluation by advanced practitioners. The nurse will be responsible for various clinical tasks, ensuring a high standard of patient care and maintaining accurate medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner.
  • Triage patients by recording all vitals and medical history accurately into the patient's chart (EMR).
  • Prepare new and existing patient charts with appropriate forms, ensuring they are dated and initiated.
  • Retrieve required signatures on forms and collect, verify, and copy patient insurance information.
  • Maintain medical records according to policy and copy/transfer records when indicated.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly office and waiting area.
  • Order supplies for the office within budgetary guidelines.
  • Follow protocols that provide medical authority in providing care.
  • Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients.
  • Select, order, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
  • Define/document differential diagnoses and list them.
  • Write orders on physician order sheets for tests and procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate action.
  • Notate findings and treatment courses in patient charts including follow-up notes.
  • Complete all lab tests as ordered by the provider.
  • Assist with patient registration, clinic callbacks, and other duties as needed.
  • Maintain regular and sustained attendance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited program.
  • Current MA, LPN/LVN, or RN license in the State of Iowa required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to work all shifts including day, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to escort or transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate.
