About the position

The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for the efficient and accurate registration of patients at Blanchard Valley Health System. This part-time role involves conducting financial assistance screenings, managing point of service collections, and providing essential information regarding hospital policies and patient rights. The registrar plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless patient experience through exemplary customer service and collaboration with various departments.

Responsibilities

  • Register and pre-register patients accurately, ensuring proper identification and conducting insurance verification for active eligibility.
  • Screen, educate, and assist patients who may qualify for financial assistance programs such as Medicaid and Charity.
  • Generate patient estimates and collect insurance copays and patient balances, informing patients of payment options.
  • Conduct medical necessity screenings for Medicare patients and obtain necessary signatures for ABN.
  • Complete all required forms including general consent for treatment and HIPAA notices.
  • Perform quality assurance on accounts from other departments and provide feedback as needed.
  • Gather data for scheduling patient appointments when necessary.
  • Complete the bucket process in the ER discharge office during 3rd shift.
  • Stay informed of regulations affecting collections for receivables and address any changes.
  • Act as a liaison between the facility and patients/families to resolve issues and address complaints.
  • Participate in educational programs to maintain skills and support new hire training.
  • Problem-solve and assist all customer groups as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Data entry and PC experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some related college experience.
  • Experience in registration, patient advocacy, and collections.
