About the position

The Payroll Compliance Manager/Director at Suna Solutions is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to all federal, state, and local laws related to payroll, benefits, 401k, taxes, and compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This position involves routine auditing and oversight of payroll and accounting vendor management, as well as process improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in the creation and enhancement of systems, policies, and procedures that govern payroll, accounting, and compliance operations. In this role, you will maintain compliance with FLSA laws and various state and local regulations, ensuring that the company’s payroll practices are up to date and in line with current legislation. You will drive key compliance initiatives and stay informed about new or pending legislation that may impact payroll operations. Additionally, you will manage all escheatment processes related to payroll and accounting, providing essential job cost and labor management reports that compare actual performance against budgets. A critical aspect of this position is auditing payroll system setups, including workers' compensation, benefits, 401K, payroll, and employee files to ensure accuracy and compliance. The Payroll Compliance Manager/Director will also be responsible for multi-state payroll tax compliance, which requires a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in managing payroll taxes across various states and multiple Federal Employer Identification Numbers (FEINs).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Conduct routine audits of payroll systems and processes for accuracy.
  • Manage payroll and accounting vendor relationships and oversee process improvements.
  • Drive compliance initiatives and stay updated on new legislation affecting payroll.
  • Oversee escheatment processes for payroll and accounting items.
  • Provide job cost and labor management reports, comparing actuals to budgets.
  • Audit payroll system setups, including workers' compensation, benefits, and employee files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in Accounting.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
  • 7+ years of payroll experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with ADP Workforce Now.
  • 5+ years of experience managing payroll taxes across multiple states and FEINs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a multi-state payroll environment.
  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
