About the position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for compiling, sorting, and maintaining payroll-related documents for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the Division of Health. This role involves processing payroll, maintaining payroll accounts, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. The specialist will also assist in preparing tax disbursements and reports, as well as providing customer service to employees regarding their payroll inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Review the accuracy of current payroll before generating the direct deposit file and printing checks.
• Prepare payments for payroll and employee benefits.
• Process payroll for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation or the Division of Health and distribute payroll reports.
• Prepare and post payroll adjusting transactions and review related transactions.
• Prepare garnishment forms, levies, and other income assignments.
• Provide customer service to employees regarding their payroll checks.
• Assist supervisor in accounting for payroll tax activities and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Process Supplemental Payroll and Special Payrolls, and prepare W-2 Tax forms for employees.
• Prepare various payroll summaries and schedules for auditors.
• Provide information to appropriate agencies regarding employees' earnings.
• Maintain and file payroll-related documents and personnel action requests.
• Perform additional duties as reasonably expected of the position.

Requirements

• Associates Degree in Accounting or Business or three years of payroll experience.
• Computer literate with good communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Associates Degree in Accounting or Business with three years of payroll experience.
• Proficiency using Munis or a financial system and a payroll automated system.
