About the position

The Peer Specialist role at UF Health is designed to provide support and guidance to patients in their recovery journey, leveraging the unique perspective of having received mental health services themselves. This position involves facilitating one-on-one and group sessions, contributing to the treatment team, and assisting patients in setting and achieving their recovery goals. Peer Specialists play a crucial role in fostering a therapeutic environment and are integral to patient care improvements through participation in Trauma-Informed Care initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical advice, suggestions, and strategies for recovery to patients.
  • Conduct one-on-one and group sessions focused on recovery tools and success strategies.
  • Document patient interactions and progress in their charts.
  • Perform Q15 minute checks and 1:1 monitoring of patients.
  • Escort patients off-unit or off-campus for activities as needed.
  • Monitor therapeutic milieu and ensure safety management.
  • Participate in Trauma-Informed Care committees and initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Peer Specialist Certification preferred, required within one year of hire.
  • Experience as a peer specialist on an inpatient psychiatric unit preferred.
  • Related experience may qualify.
