About the position

The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) role at Maison Bienvenue involves providing essential support to residents in an assisted living environment. The PCA is responsible for assisting with daily living activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring the dignity and individuality of each resident is respected. This position requires effective communication with healthcare professionals and adherence to state regulations and facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to and conveys the philosophy of Assisted Living.
  • Receives report from the previous shift and maintains physician's orders in accordance with policy.
  • Communicates appropriately with physicians, Resident Care Coordinator, Executive Director, and outside health care agencies.
  • Completes documentation using appropriate tools in accordance with policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Assures doors are locked and alarmed at all times.
  • Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments and facility to RCC and Executive Director.
  • Completes Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence.
  • Observes changes in resident physical or mental status and communicates to RCC and Executive Director.
  • Familiarizes with fire, missing persons, and other emergency procedures, following facility policy and procedures.
  • Maintains resident records including obtaining current physician orders and alert charting.
  • Maintains service plans and may participate in Service Plan reviews.
  • Documents in shift-to-shift report book and ADL binder before going off shift.
  • Assists with activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs, and simple treatments.
  • Escorts residents to and from the dining room while encouraging independence.
  • Assists with serving meals and dining room duties as instructed.
  • Provides laundry and housekeeping services to residents as assigned.
  • Relieves at front desk, providing constant coverage for call and alarm system.
  • Assists with resident activity programs as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform resident care with dignity and individuality.
  • Acceptable attendance record and timely notification of supervisor if late or unable to work.
  • Minimal supervision required; self-starter with good organizational skills.
  • Mature behavior and pleasant demeanor in speech and action.
  • Ability to keep resident information confidential and respect residents' rights.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and read/write in English.
  • Ability to spend long periods on feet and ambulate quickly.
  • Free of non-treated communicable disease.
  • Accurate, dependable, neat, and thorough in assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to learn quickly and apply basic management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred but not necessary.
  • Familiarity with working with the elderly population.
