About the position

The Pharmacy Technician II position at City of Hope is a per diem role focused on supporting the pharmacy department in preparing and compounding medications under pharmacist supervision. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining inventory control, contributing to the overall mission of delivering effective treatments to patients with life-threatening illnesses.

Responsibilities

• Package, prepare, and compound oral medications, intravenous medications, and chemotherapy/biohazard medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Ensure compliance with USP 797 & 800 at all times.
• Utilize proper aseptic technique for all pharmaceutical mixing.
• Order, receive, and maintain accurate medication inventory.
• Coordinate with Specialty Pharmacies or manufacturers for timely deliveries of medications for infusion.
• Perform routine daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning as required.
• Procure and maintain supplies necessary for daily mixing operations.
• Act as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning basic pharmaceutical information to achieve positive patient outcomes.
• Assist the pharmacist in billing pharmaceuticals.
• Perform inspections of all pharmacy and clinical areas where medications are stored and submit audit reports to the appropriate individual.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent, or Post High School vocational/specialized training, or Graduation from a foreign school of Pharmacy.
• 3 or more years of performing related duties as a pharmacy technician.
• Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the California State Board of Pharmacy.
• Certified Pharmacist Technician (CPhT) from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), preferred.
