About The Position

The Phlebotomist at CHI Saint Joseph Health is responsible for performing blood collections from patients while ensuring their safety and comfort. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Phlebotomy and specimen collection skills.
• Adequate conversational English for communication with patients and co-workers.
• Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with hospital and laboratory information systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood collections from patients and ensure their safety and comfort.
• Provide direct patient care to patients of all ages.
• Manage Front Office duties including dispatching phlebotomists and answering phones.
• Order lab tests in the computer and check the Order Monitor Log.
• Receive specimens into the Lab and deliver them to various sections.
• Track and dispatch Support Assistants efficiently.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to routine venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
• Identify patients appropriately according to procedures being performed.
• Prepare specimens for analysis in assigned sections.
• Document and follow up on specimen integrity issues.
• Communicate with Dispatch for recollects if required.
• Maintain the specimen collection area and equipment for productivity.
• Participate in Phlebotomy education and follow infection control guidelines.
