About the position

The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors at various school locations. This role involves inspecting and maintaining physical security measures, responding to security incidents, and collaborating with law enforcement and school officials to promote a safe educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect exterior and interior doors to ensure they are closed and locked during school hours.
• Utilize the DSX Access Control system and standard door hardware systems to maintain security.
• Place work requests through the School dude Work Order System to address security issues.
• Conduct routine patrols of school premises to prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry.
• Enforce School Board policies regarding conduct on school property.
• Inspect the physical security of buildings, including doors, windows, and locks, and report maintenance issues.
• Collaborate with public safety personnel during emergencies and assist with first aid as needed.
• Serve as a member of the School Safety Team and assist with emergency planning and drills.

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Minimum of one year of experience in security or law enforcement.
• Must complete entry-level training to be certified as a School Security Officer within 60 days of employment.
• Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid is required.
• Valid VA Driver's License is necessary for driving duties.
• Ability to maintain physical standards including agility and stamina.
