About the position

The Plumbing/Piping Estimator at University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors (UMEC) is responsible for overseeing all phases of the estimating and bidding process for mechanical systems, particularly plumbing and piping. This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical construction bidding processes and expertise in HVAC systems, especially in sectors such as healthcare and commercial. The estimator will collaborate with various professionals, manage project designs, and ensure accurate and competitive bid proposals.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements.
• Review and understand all project bid documents.
• Conduct quantity take-off, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Input data into spreadsheets and prepare proposals using Quick Pen estimating software.
• Collaborate with design firms and project teams on design-assist projects.
• Manage developing project mechanical designs to budget, ensuring compliance with safety and insurance requirements.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and scope reviews to understand the complete scope of work.
• Visit construction project sites for job walks and meetings in the Greater Phoenix area.
• Perform additional assignments as required by company needs.

Requirements

• 3 to 6 years of Plumbing and Mechanical Piping Estimating experience.
• Proficiency in preparing large and complex bid proposals.
• Mechanical Engineering Degree or Construction Management Degree from an accredited college/university preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical construction bidding processes.
• Specific expertise with Plumbing, Mechanical Piping, and HVAC systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Onsite field experience in plumbing and pipefitting.
• Familiarity with project management/document control software.
• Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
