About the position

The Quality Manager at CMI Group is responsible for leading the quality department within the Aerospace & Defense manufacturing sector. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance quality control, reduce costs of poor quality (COPQ), and ensure compliance with industry standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP. The manager will oversee inspection activities, address customer quality issues, and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives while managing a team of quality engineers and inspectors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the strategy for the quality department.
  • Create strategic initiatives to reduce the cost of poor quality (COPQ).
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to reduce non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Lead the quality team in addressing customer quality issues and problem-solving using FMEA, 8D, and SPC.
  • Administer the Quality Department, including assigning duties and conducting employee reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements and maintain AS9100 certification.
  • Review KPI performance data and implement improvement actions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding complaints and resolutions.
  • Facilitate root cause corrective actions for nonconformities.
  • Direct and coordinate inspection activities and improve turnaround times for first articles.
  • Monitor supplier performance and conduct supplier audits.
  • Participate in contract review activities and ensure flow down of requirements into production documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years managing a Quality Department in a Defense/Aerospace environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of precision metal machining and special processes.
  • Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Proven leadership capability with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AS9100 Audit (Rev. D), ITAR/EAR, and FAA regulations.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multisite responsibility in a complex environment.
  • Proven experience in implementing Zero Defect Plans and PDCA methodology.
