About the position

The Quality Systems Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the plant's quality and food safety management systems in compliance with product specifications, regulations, and third-party food safety standards such as SQF or BRC. This role involves maintaining a controlled Quality Management System (QMS), leading quality and food safety initiatives, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a controlled Quality Management System (QMS) with detailed policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate an annual QMS review to ensure compliance and identify issues.
  • Ensure effective implementation of all related policies and procedures.
  • Lead a quality and food safety committee for QMS implementation and training.
  • Develop and implement food safety and quality systems to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the Food Defense and HACCP Coordinator and primary SQF Practitioner.
  • Train employees in food safety requirements and related policies.
  • Lead the HACCP team and manage the written HACCP plan.
  • Maintain a material traceability system and perform Mock Recall exercises.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Manage testing, inspection, and measurement control plans for product quality.
  • Review and communicate Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC) data.
  • Implement nonconforming control to ensure product quality standards are met.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to solve production and quality issues.
  • Maintain measurement instrument accuracy and perform calibrations as necessary.
  • Utilize the corporate Complaint System to track and resolve customer complaints.
  • Participate in employee engagement initiatives and support corporate initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a quality or food safety role in food processing or packaging.
  • Knowledge of SPC, SQC, metrology, problem solving, internal auditing, HACCP, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
  • A four-year college degree in food science, biology, or engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Food safety audit certification (such as AIB or SQF) is desired.
