About the position

The Registered Nurse - Critical Care at NCH Healthcare System is responsible for independently planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This role involves providing direct nursing care, participating in shared decision-making, and contributing to quality improvement activities. The nurse will work collaboratively with patients, families, and the inter-professional team to ensure safe and effective care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a care plan that includes strategies to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements the plan of care interventions and medical plan of care as appropriate.
  • Coordinates care delivery and employs patient teaching to promote health and safety.
  • Evaluates progress toward outcomes and practices ethically.
  • Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.
  • Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.
  • Contributes to quality nursing practice and shared decision making by supporting council decisions and active participation in SDM.
  • Communicates effectively in all areas of practice.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and the inter-professional team in nursing practice.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources to provide safe, effective, and financially responsible nursing services.
  • Practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
  • Completes Adult ICU Systems Assessment and integrates findings with EMR to support patient safety and best outcomes.
  • Demonstrates competency with monitoring skills including cardiac rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic measurement.
  • Knowledgeable in indications of critical care specific medications and safely administers, titrates, and monitors effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates safe use and troubleshooting of equipment specific to the critical care environment.
  • Maintains critical care specific competencies annually.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary rounds.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in critical care for candidates with Critical Care experience.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
  • BSN strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • New graduate nurses will be considered for the fellowship program, with BSN preferred.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
