About the position

The RN Student Nurse Extern PRN Behavioral Health position at Parham Doctors' Hospital offers an exciting opportunity for nursing students to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern will assist in providing high-quality, patient-centered care, contributing to the overall well-being of patients in the behavioral health unit. This role emphasizes the importance of creating positive patient interactions and implementing care plans while developing professional skills in a real-world setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff in providing patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
• Work closely with the clinical team to create and implement care plans.
• Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care.
• Assist with patient mobility by regularly turning, positioning, and ambulating patients.
• Transfer patients to and from other units/departments as needed.
• Translate complex medical terminology for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure understanding of medical conditions and treatment plans.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes needed upon discharge.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing.
• Ability to create and implement a personal career development plan, reviewed regularly by a supervisor or preceptor.
• One year of completed nursing school is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
