The Respiratory Therapist position at Lexington Medical Center involves providing respiratory care services to patients, including assessments, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and outpatient services such as diagnostic studies and pulmonary rehabilitation. The role requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the department's staffing needs and offers full-time benefits to part-time employees. The therapist will work with various patient populations and be responsible for patient education, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inpatient assessments and provide oxygen and routine therapy.
  • Administer arterial blood gases and manage mechanical ventilation.
  • Conduct outpatient diagnostic studies and pulmonary rehabilitation, including patient assessment and follow-up.
  • Document patient medical history, care plans, and responses to treatment.
  • Evaluate and report patient outcomes and progress in rehabilitation programs.
  • Provide individualized counseling and education to patients and families.
  • Teach group education classes as part of the outpatient pulmonary rehab program.
  • Perform routine therapy, administer medications, and follow clinical protocols.
  • Interpret prescriptions and confer with physicians regarding therapy requirements.
  • Perform arterial punctures and analyze blood gas samples.
  • Initiate, monitor, and troubleshoot BIPAP/CPAP systems.
  • Respond to 'Code Blues' and perform CPR as needed.
  • Assist with patient/family education related to respiratory care.

Requirements

  • 2 Year Associate's Degree from an AMA accredited program for Respiratory Care.
  • Registered through the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners for the State of South Carolina.
  • Infant/Child and Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified; ACLS certification required for specific roles.
  • Active RRT credential may substitute for education if accompanied by 10 years of direct experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in critical care settings.
  • Specialized training in neonatal resuscitation or advanced respiratory care techniques.
