About The Position

The Safety Superintendent at Chevron Phillips Chemical in Cedar Bayou, Texas, is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of personnel safety, firewater systems, and emergency response activities at the facility. This position requires a proactive approach to risk reduction and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety among employees and contractors. The Safety Superintendent will lead safety strategy development, manage budgets, and support operational excellence initiatives within the plant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of eight (8) years in the EHS&S field in a petrochemical or refining environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Passion to excel, customer-focused, results-driven, and able to work with personnel at various levels of the company.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising or managing personnel
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, a science/technical related field, or EH&S related discipline
  • Professional certification in an EHS discipline (e.g., Certified Safety Professional designation)
  • Member of Emergency Response Team
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and executive functioning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leads development and implementation of facility safety strategies, including long-range and short-range goals.
  • Demonstrates visible safety leadership through physical presence in the plant and implementation of creative safety solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of compliance legislation and policy changes relevant to the facility.
  • Ensures the Emergency Response Team is adequately supported, staffed, and trained for potential emergencies.
  • Coordinates the Contractor Safety program to achieve top quartile safety performance.
  • Partners with other departments to solve problems and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Challenges the status quo and pursues continuous improvement in safety programs and policies.
  • Coaches and develops direct reports to grow new leaders.
  • Leads initiatives to improve Conduct of Operations (COO) and Operational Discipline (OD).
  • Ensures thorough internal and external reporting of incidents according to timelines.
  • Establishes and evaluates annual safety department budgets and capital expenditures related to safety programs.
  • Prepares and reviews safety plans for major capital projects.
