About the position

The School Age Child Care Teacher at the Frederick YMCA plays a vital role in supporting the Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) program. This part-time position involves caring for small groups of children at a school site, ensuring their safety and well-being before and after school hours, as well as during summer sessions. The teacher is responsible for maintaining high-quality programming in compliance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) regulations and takes charge of the program in the absence of the Site Director.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality programming compliant with MSDE guidelines.
  • Take charge of the program in the absence of the Site Director.
  • Maintain children's safety by following discipline policies and the YMCA Code of Conduct.
  • Incorporate a variety of activities promoting arts, character development, health, wellness, STEM, and literacy.
  • Build respectful relationships with children and provide a secure environment.
  • Communicate positively with parents about their child's day and behavior issues.
  • Assist the Site Director in conducting family events and maintaining positive relationships with parents.
  • Perform administrative functions related to the BASE department and site operations.
  • Participate in YMCA events and complete necessary staff training.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding programmatic issues and participant information.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must hold a high school diploma or GED, or completed college coursework for credit.
  • Must have 6 semester hours or 90 clock hours of approved training, including 45 hours in Child Development and 45 in Curriculum.
  • Must have 400 hours of experience in a school age environment or 1 year caring for school age children in a registered family child care.
  • Must have 9 clock hours of approved training in communication with staff, parents, and the public.
  • Must have 3 clock hours of training in ADA compliance.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional work ethic and strength of character.
