About the position

The Shipboard Fiber Optic Technician role at General Dynamics involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication equipment, specifically focusing on fiber optic systems. Technicians will work under direct supervision to ensure efficient operation of communication circuits and respond to system failures, contributing to the overall functionality of telecommunication services.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunication equipment.
• Run, pull, terminate, and splice cables; install routers, switches, multiplexors, and cable trays.
• Provide reports and complete requests for new service.
• Determine methodology for installing telephone service or other telecommunication technology.
• Assess appropriateness of moderate equipment changes or modifications including call switches, test trunks, and test links.
• Respond to emergency calls in the event of a system failure.
• Make precision adjustments on switches, relays, and other electrical control devices for maximum operating efficiency.
• Verify services by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identify, correct, or escalate problems.

Requirements

• 1+ years of related experience in telecommunication systems.
• Associates Degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
• US Citizenship required.
