About the position
The Substation Wireman is responsible for maintaining, repairing, modifying, and installing a variety of electrical and electronic equipment systems in substations. This role supports the construction of new substations and upgrades to existing ones, ensuring adherence to safety standards and power company requirements. The position requires advanced knowledge of substation work and the ability to work independently while completing necessary documentation.
Responsibilities
- Perform all phases of substation work in accordance with power company standards as directed by the supervisor.
- Hook up and dress transformers, set poles, equipment, and steel structures, adjust switches, and pull and terminate control cables.
- Complete all required paperwork and job logs accurately.
- Troubleshoot power and control circuits effectively.
- Work at heights and from boom lifts without issues.
- Understand, communicate, and train hand signals required for equipment operation.
Requirements
- Previous substation experience is required.
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment systems.
- Ability to work with limited or no supervision.
Nice-to-haves
- OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
