About the position

The Support Services Technician II at Spelman College provides specialized computing and AV support, performing complex technical tasks to resolve hardware and software issues. This role involves direct interaction with users, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring optimal performance of technology services. The technician also supports the mission of Spelman College by delivering exemplary service to faculty, staff, students, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve hardware and software issues with computer configurations, images, desktops, laptops, and printers.
  • Support and maintain PC peripherals and in-house audio-visual equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical problems and provide end-user training.
  • Provide assistance to users via phone as a service desk specialist.
  • Handle confidential customer information and prioritize repairs and service.
  • Document service management solutions using recommended tools.
  • Be available for on-call and emergency support as needed.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling team activities.
  • Train intern PC Tech students and work with project teams on new products and services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of directly related experience and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Advanced experience in hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Detailed understanding of Windows, Mac, and Unix operating systems.
  • Knowledge of AV technology and audio-visual mass controllers.
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical issues and negotiate actions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certifications such as ITIL Foundations, A+, Network Plus, and AV certification preferred.
  • Experience with Linux and Apple Certified Associate preferred.
