About the position

The Temp Counselor at Berklee College of Music provides goal-oriented mental health services to students, focusing on their academic, personal, and professional development. This role involves offering brief mental health interventions, crisis intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support the student population. The position is part-time, lasting for two months, and requires a commitment of 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health services to the student population within the Flexible Care Model.
  • Conduct assessments for personal counseling and refer as appropriate to community providers for psychiatric evaluation, medications, and/or longer-term treatment.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Maintain all pertinent clinical documentation and enter data into counseling medical record.
  • Attend and participate in individual clinical supervision as well as peer group supervision and case presentation.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Provide consultation to staff, faculty, and student leaders of the Berklee community as directed by the Director of Counseling Services.
  • If licensed, maintain licensure requirements and carry professional liability insurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work or Master of Counseling degree or equivalent degree.
  • Massachusetts license or license eligible, can be LMFT, LMHC, LICSW or equivalent.
  • Strong general counseling and crisis intervention skills.
  • Multicultural excellence in working with students of color, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students.
  • Strong knowledge of Boston area resources, providers, and section 12 protocol.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing counseling services.

  • Experience working with college students or within a college setting.
  • Knowledge of Section 12 procedures and ethical considerations.
  • Strong psychological assessment, individual, and group counseling skills.
  • Ability to engage with multicultural and diverse student populations.
