About the position

The Tennessee State Parks Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations at Indian Mountain State Park. This supervisory role involves leading a team in performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and managing staff schedules and performance evaluations. The position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance, including building repairs, grounds upkeep, and equipment operation, while also fostering relationships with contractors and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief of Maintenance in establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors, state employees, and executive officers.
  • Maintain proper environmental, occupational, safety, and health compliance in accordance with state, federal, and local guidelines.
  • Plan long range and off-season projects such as opening and closing seasonal facilities and appropriate time sensitive maintenance projects.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire staff to fill positions vacancies within work units.
  • Create work schedules for subordinate employees in the TSP Maintenance Series.
  • Approve time worked and leave requests for subordinates.
  • Complete job plans, interim reviews, and performance evaluations for staff.
  • Maintain credit cards for purchasing supplies and reconcile statements weekly.
  • Complete work orders for all tagged equipment for submittal to Motor Vehicle Management (MVM).
  • Complete incident reports as required by park policy for accidents, vehicle incidents, and personal injuries or damage to park visitors' vehicles.
  • Work with outside vendors to obtain bids and order supplies.
  • Communicate with the general public to provide basic customer service and direct persons to appropriate solutions or answers.
  • Assist Park Rangers and Maintenance staff with controlled burns and suppressing forest fires.
  • Lead and perform grounds maintenance work including cutting and trimming grass and obstructive tree limbs.
  • Patch holes in roads and sidewalks to ensure public safety.
  • Inspect grounds for trash, safety hazards, maintenance issues, and general appearance to ensure public safety in the park.
  • Lead and perform janitorial tasks related to cleaning facilities.
  • Perform inspection of grounds and facilities daily to identify areas or facilities needing repair and maintenance.
  • Create preventative maintenance plans to organize routine preventative maintenance.
  • Assist in performing inventory of work-related supplies and materials.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.
  • Perform minor construction projects as needed.
  • Perform general carpentry including repairing doors and windows.
  • Perform minor roofing repair and maintenance.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment such as swimming pool pumps and HVAC systems.
  • Perform electrical repair tasks such as replacing defective breakers and wiring.
  • Perform routine plumbing tasks such as unstopping commodes and repairing leaks.
  • Assist with the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, water lines, and septic lines.
  • Lead and assign work to lower-level maintenance staff.
  • Prioritize daily tasks and activities to meet operational requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of TSP Maintenance Workers and TSP Maintenance Techs.
  • Train TSP Maintenance Workers and TSP Maintenance Techs on proper and safe use of various equipment and tools.
  • Operate and utilize a variety of heavy equipment including back hoes and tractors.
  • Utilize backhoes and dump trucks to move heavy loads of mulch and topsoil.
  • Operate equipment including mowers, trimmers, and small trucks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Assist higher level maintenance staff with complex repairs on equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Perform basic welding for equipment repair as needed.
  • Perform logging operations including chain saw operation for cutting down dead trees.
  • Complete work order request form to log repair work.
  • Keep digital and/or physical records of work performed and make routine reports.

Requirements

  • Experience equivalent to four years of increasingly responsible and skilled full-time labor and trades experience.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of principles, equipment, and tools involved in fire prevention, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, and cleaning work.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local guidelines regarding environmental, occupational, safety, and health compliance.
