About the position

The Transportation Supervisor at DHL Supply Chain plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the truck fleet to ensure high service levels while minimizing expenses. This position is integral to maintaining the supply chain's efficiency, ensuring that customer products are delivered on time, regardless of challenges such as storms or vehicle breakdowns. The supervisor will work closely with both internal and external parties to provide optimal solutions for transportation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the truck fleet to assure high service levels are attained at minimum expense.
  • Develop accurate record-keeping methods to monitor shipments and drivers effectively.
  • Maintain accurate files on vehicle use, condition, and maintenance.
  • Ensure effective utilization of tractors and trailers by developing efficient delivery schedules.
  • Implement an inspection program to safeguard equipment and a maintenance program for effective operation.
  • Recommend appropriate specifications for new equipment to the Transportation Manager.
  • Propose programs to improve fleet operations to the Transportation Manager.
  • Provide delivery service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Direct the operations of clerical staff and drivers to achieve objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a productive work team through hiring, training, and professional development.
  • Match associates' skills and backgrounds to the work required.
  • Apply communication and motivational techniques to supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates.
  • Implement a performance evaluation system for promotions, wage increases, and terminations.
  • Implement a driver safety program.
  • Process bills of lading and ensure proper charges are billed appropriately.
  • Establish a trip reporting procedure and process trip reports from all drivers and shipments.
  • Assure timely creation and filing of Department of Transportation reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 0 to 3 years experience in transportation and fleet management required.
