About the position

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the transportation department, ensuring efficient dispatching, routing, and compliance with safety regulations. This role involves managing a team of transportation associates, coordinating schedules, and addressing customer concerns to maintain a high level of service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day transportation department activities including dispatching, routing, and equipment maintenance.
  • Work with cross-functional departments to resolve transportation and supply chain issues promptly.
  • Assign and update driver schedules, coordinating delivery changes through routing and scheduling software.
  • Ensure customer concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Review on-board computers and log reports to maximize fleet performance.
  • Monitor driver schedules for compliance with DOT regulations and communicate necessary information to drivers.
  • Assist in arranging and conducting safety meetings to reinforce compliance and address concerns.
  • Oversee driver paperwork, logs, and payroll submissions, providing training on process changes as needed.
  • Maintain transportation reporting and monitor department KPI metrics, analyzing results to ensure efficient routes.
  • Ensure health, safety, cleanliness, and security of the work environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Three years of combined transportation and/or supply chain operations experience required.
  • One year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Good leadership and training skills; ability to work with all levels of management and associates.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA/CSA compliance, DOT requirements, and dispatching activities.
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Cadec and dispatch software (CAMS, etc.) and/or routing software (JDA).
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on call during evenings or weekends.
