About the position
The Underground Line Worker-Apprentice position at Dominion Energy involves assisting with the construction, operation, and maintenance of underground electric lines within the Electric Distribution Operations in the Columbia, SC area. This apprenticeship program is designed to provide hands-on training and written instruction over a four-year period, preparing candidates for a career in the energy sector while emphasizing safety and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Regularly work in manholes and other enclosed underground structures
- Safely handle heavy/bulky equipment and materials
- Be available to respond to callouts and urgent needs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
- Work outside in inclement weather conditions
- Consistently adhere to safety rules to work in proximity of high and low voltage electric equipment
- Successfully complete the four (4) year apprenticeship training program which includes both written and hands-on instruction.
Requirements
- 0 - 3 years of directly related experience
- 3 - 5 years of line worker experience and training
- 5+ years of line worker experience and training
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with a good driving history
- Ability to be safety conscious and work in proximity of high and low voltage electrical equipment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) within six (6) months of hire
- Excellent physical condition and strong mechanical skills
- Ability to work long hours during emergency or storm restoration situations
- Ability to work outside in heat and cold, frequently in inclement weather conditions
- Live within a 20-mile radius (or 30-minute drive) of the position's service territory/work location within 6 months of hire
- Be physically and mentally capable of climbing and working within enclosed spaces.
