About the position

The Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI) position involves patrolling for hazardous trees, conducting inspections, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines. The role includes submitting inspection results to clients, planning and coordinating tree clearance activities, and serving as a liaison between clients and tree crews. This position requires ISA Arborist and Tree Risk Assessment Qualified Certification and is specific to the Santa Rosa, California area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit patrols in accordance with the annual VM plan and standards.
  • Identify required tree work along existing PG&E rights-of-way and prescribe necessary actions.
  • Notify property owners/agencies about upcoming tree work and obtain necessary authorizations.
  • Serve as a contact for new business and reconstruction work.
  • Conduct work verification inspections to ensure quality and completion of tree work.
  • Investigate and document tree-related outages and attend outage meetings as needed.
  • Assist in managing VM Tags and notify customers about non-routine locations.
  • Support emergency response by dispatching tree crews and field checking sites.
  • Participate in contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
  • Act as a customer relations representative on behalf of PG&E.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and complete documentation and reporting.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class C driver's license and ability to meet company driver acceptability requirements.
  • One year of related arboricultural experience, or ISA Certified Arborist, or a 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field for VMI Start.
  • One year of related arboricultural experience and ISA Certified Arborist, or a 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field for VMI-1.
  • Five years of experience as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with line clearance certification or as a Vegetation Management Inspector for SVMI.
