About the position

The Victim Advocate (SAPR) position is primarily focused on providing support and advocacy for victims of sexual assault within the military community. The role involves offering 24/7 assistance to victims, ensuring their immediate needs are met, and facilitating access to necessary resources and services. The advocate serves as a liaison between victims and various agencies, including law enforcement and legal services, while also participating in training and program support activities to enhance victim advocacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides 24/7 support for victims' immediate needs, including assessing safety concerns and providing reporting options.
  • Serves as an advocate for victims with law enforcement, medical, and legal agencies.
  • Maintains follow-up contact with victims and accompanies them to appointments and court proceedings as requested.
  • Assists victims in advocating for themselves and establishing recovery goals.
  • Facilitates contact with military and civilian legal offices for personal legal advice.
  • Ensures timely notification of the SARC and comprehensive documentation in the Defense Sexual Assault Incident Database (DSAID).
  • Attends sexual assault Case Management Group meetings to advocate for victims' needs.
  • Reports victim support services and response information to the SARC.
  • Travels to different locations for training and coordination with clients and agencies.
  • Assists the installation SARC in identifying resources and promoting victim advocacy services.
  • Helps develop and coordinate SAPR prevention and public awareness campaigns.
  • Trains commands and SAPR personnel on reporting procedures and victim support services.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and complete a background investigation.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience providing victim advocacy services to adult victims of sexual assault.
  • Knowledge of primary prevention principles and sexual assault dynamics.
  • Knowledge of social service delivery systems and community resources for sexual assault advocacy.
  • Skill in using trauma-informed care approaches with victims in crisis situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in military or Department of Defense environments.
  • Familiarity with the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program.
  • Training experience in victim advocacy or related fields.
