About the position

The Spanish/ESL Instructor at Dodge City Community College is responsible for providing a student-centered learning environment that fosters educational, personal, and career goals. The instructor will engage in instructional practices, mentor students, implement assessment measures, and collaborate within the Humanities Division and the Student Achievement Resource Center. This role also involves serving on various college committees and continuously improving instructional quality through innovative methodologies and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in a variety of learning support and instructional practices.
  • Mentor students by providing a positive and encouraging environment for learning.
  • Identify and implement assessment measures to achieve course, program, and college learning outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively within the Humanities Division and the Student Achievement Resource Center (SARC).
  • Serve on various college committees.
  • Provide a student-centered learning environment.
  • Foster a learning environment through core values of students first, community, integrity, and innovation.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Support the college initiative to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Review, evaluate, revise, develop, and implement program curriculum.
  • Prepare syllabi and learning materials for classroom.
  • Teach an instructional load which may consist of day/night classes, various modalities and locations.
  • Provide access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
  • Attend and participate in department and division meetings and institutional committees.
  • Assist in the articulation of courses with secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Develop and implement new courses to curriculum in various delivery modalities when requested.
  • Organize and maintain appropriate scholastic records for students.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning.
  • Assist with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.

Requirements

  • Masters in Spanish or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Spanish.
  • Masters in TESOL or TESOL endorsement/certificate equivalent to at least 18 graduate hours.
  • Teaching experience in secondary and/or post-secondary levels.
  • Demonstrated oral and written fluency in Spanish.
  • Ability to think, write and communicate effectively.
  • Evidence of proficiencies and developing expertise in current teaching assignments.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations including traditional and non-traditional students.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
