About the position

The International School of San Antonio is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Spanish Immersion Teacher for our Saturday Program. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about language immersion and eager to work with young children. The Spanish Immersion Teacher will be responsible for creating engaging learning activities that immerse students in the Spanish language, fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will help students develop the necessary competencies and skills to thrive in society, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience. At the International School of San Antonio, we pride ourselves on offering a unique language immersion education. Our preschool and kindergarten programs cater to children aged three to five, helping them become fluent and confident participants in their world. Parents have the option to choose from French, Chinese, or Spanish tracks for their children. In our Elementary School, we deliver an international curriculum in the target languages of French, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese alongside English. Students are encouraged to develop their reading skills in both languages while building foundational knowledge in math, science, social studies, and the arts. We emphasize inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to question and explore the world around them. The Spanish Immersion Teacher will play a crucial role in planning, preparing, and conducting activities that align with the curriculum. This includes ensuring the safety and well-being of the children, supervising them during various activities, and differentiating lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of students. Building positive relationships with parents and collaborating with colleagues to provide a high-quality learning experience are also key components of this position. The teacher will utilize various assessment methods to evaluate student progress and contribute to a friendly and respectful working environment. Additionally, the teacher will be responsible for organizing the classroom space to encourage independent use of materials and will attend professional development workshops to enhance their skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned learning themes to students according to the curriculum plan
  • Plan, prepare, organize, and conduct activities that align with the curriculum plan
  • Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children
  • Supervise children during recess, snack and pickup time
  • Differentiate lesson plans based on age, level of development, and learning needs
  • Develop positive parent-teacher relationships and promote parent-teacher partnerships
  • Communicate with parents to inform them about their children's academic progress
  • Partner with ISSA colleagues to provide a high-quality learning experience and ensure continuity across the curriculum
  • Use different assessment methods to evaluate student progress, their academic strengths, and weaknesses
  • Contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, open, and honest
  • Organize the classroom space in a functional, clean, neat, and attractive way that encourages students to use materials as independently as appropriate
  • Monitor student activities on school premises and ensure the safety of every student in the classroom and on school grounds
  • Attend educational training and workshops for professional growth
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited university; master's degree preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience working with a transdisciplinary curriculum framework, designing engaging, student-centered lesson plans
  • Clear understanding of stages of child development and the social/emotional needs of children
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Comfortable working in a mixed-age, multilingual classroom
  • Good working knowledge of standard office equipment and software, including but not limited to a computer, printer, laminating machine, etc.
  • Must pass a background check
