About the position

The Spanish-speaking Kindergarten Teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools is responsible for ensuring that students are academically and socially prepared for future educational and career opportunities. The role involves providing diverse learning experiences tailored to meet individual student needs, fostering critical thinking, and engaging with the community to support student development. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and colleagues to create a positive learning environment and contribute to the school's goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective instruction in various academic areas using the Danielson Rubric.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Incorporate the Tripod 7 Cs into daily practice.
• Teach the required curriculum and administer common assessments.
• Maintain and monitor ongoing student progress.
• Provide instruction and interventions in behavioral areas.
• Develop detailed lesson plans for each subject area.
• Plan and provide educational supplemental activities for all children, including those with special needs.
• Utilize best classroom management practices to create a conducive learning environment.
• Collaborate with special education staff to provide individualized education programs (IEPs).
• Participate in professional development and implement learned strategies.
• Maintain regular, positive contact with parents and communicate student progress.
• Participate in parent meetings and contribute to community service goals.
• Serve as a role model and interact positively with the school community.
• Attend staff meetings and contribute to extra-curricular activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
• Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification.
• Demonstrated understanding of how children learn and ability to motivate students.
• Ability to work in a diverse environment and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and create engaging learning opportunities.
• Ability to manage a diverse workload.

• Fluency in Spanish.
